The fluorescent lamp cap is a component of a fluorescent lamp. A fluorescent lamp, or tube, is a low-pressure mercury-vapor lamp that produces visible light through fluorescence. When an electric current excites the mercury vapor, it generates UV light, which causes a phosphor coating to glow. These lamps are more efficient than incandescent bulbs, offering 50-100 lumens per watt, but are less efficient than most LEDs.
